BACK TO SCHOOL: EVERYTHING NEW IS OLD
Back To School - what feelings do those words inspire in you? To me it feels like the beginning of a horse race, someone rings a bell and we are off in high gear. The truth is, everything that appears to be new is old. WE'.....RE OFF! Off to the fast-paced lifestyle we limped away from in late spring when school ended. We are overscheduled and overloaded with things: things to do and things to maintain. This year, I hope you will decide to step back and ignore the racing bell and listen to a different drummer - your own heart. If being less stressed and having more productive family time is one of your goals this year, then try our Parent Peer Group. Parent Peer Groups are designed to help you keep your sanity...PARENT SMARTER INSTEAD OF PARENTING HARDER!!! Here are some upcoming events designed to help you do just that: * BOND WITH YOUR KIDS - bring the whole family to the Red Ribbon Miles of Quarters 5K Walk at the Rally for Recovery on Saturday, September 12 at 8:30am, at Bicentennial Park. The cost is $9 and you can register online at
www.rallyforrecovery.com.
* Learn about the latest drug policy and meet the Director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, R. Gil Kerlikowske, at the Red Ribbon Kick-Off Breakfast - September 21, 2009 - at the Victor E. Clarke Education Center at South Miami Hospital, sponsored by Baptist Health South Florida. Space is limited. Contact ireyes@informedfamilies.org for more information.
* "Family Day - A Day To Eat Dinner With Your Children" is a national effort to promote parental engagement as a simple, effective way to reduce youth substance abuse risk and raise healthier children. Eat dinner with your family on Family Day, September 28th, 2009! Send us a photo of your family eating dinner to contest@informedfamilies.org together by October 5th and fill out a Family Day pledge and you could win a $50 Publix gift card; enjoy more family dinners together on us!
* Celebrate Red Ribbon Week on October 23rd-31st with your kids. This year's theme is "Drug Free Is The Key." For a free copy of our Red Ribbon planning guide, click here. Also, October 23rd is "Wear Red Day" in Miami-Dade County. Wear red and demonstrate your commitment to raising safe, healthy and drug-free kids. Last month's CATalyst Newsletter explores the relationship between giving and happiness. Want to learn how to make a difference? Did you know that a quarter can help solve the drug problem? Click here or call us at (305) 856-4886 for more information about the Red Ribbon Miles of Quarters campaign. Remember, raising safe, healthy and drug-free kids is a never-ending process of setting boundaries and reinforcing healthy messages. Give us a call at (305) 856-4886 and let us help you do just that.
